Choosing Your Perfect Wedding DJ in Dumfries & Galloway
Planning your Wedding is no easy task and with so many options out there, it’s difficult to know where to start – particularly when it comes to your Wedding DJ. We are very lucky to have a fantastic range of Wedding suppliers in Dumfries & Galloway but what do you need to look out for when you are researching options for your big day?
In this blog, we will discuss our top six tips to help you find your perfect Wedding DJ in Dumfries & Galloway. Your evening entertainment can make or break your special day so it is vital you spend some time and find a DJ that you totally trust to make your Wedding awesome.
1 – Availability
This is the most important factor when looking for your Wedding DJ, or any Wedding supplier for that matter – Are they available for your date? You could find the perfect DJ, who plays the music you love, and has the best looking disco in the area, but if they are not available, then you’ve got a problem!
Ideally you should be looking to book your Wedding DJ between 6 and 12 months in advance, although you can be lucky and pick up a cancellation, or secure your date at short notice.
2 – Style/Personality
If you have a specific music style or genre that you want to hear at your Wedding, then make sure your DJ is able to play this for you. Whilst a lot of DJs will say they can play any music, some will be more confident in specific music genres than others, so it is always better to have that discussion and explain exactly what you are looking for.
The personality and style of the DJ themselves is also something to consider – Do you like them as a person? Do you feel you can work with them? You may be looking for a Wedding DJ who chats a lot on the microphone, or perhaps one who lets the music do the talking. The choice is yours, but always try and get a feel for your DJ’s personality and style.
The best way to get to know a DJ is to speak to them. Chat with them through email or social media, give them a call or meet up with them on Zoom. Having a relaxed chat about your special day will give you a feel for what they are like and allow you to decide whether you can trust them for your big day.
3 – Stage Look
Whilst the music is the most important part of any disco, the look of the disco is also really important. You will be spending a lot of time and effort making your Wedding venue look stunning, so why settle for anything less when it comes to your Wedding Disco?
Always look at photos and videos of previous events your Wedding DJ has performed at, and check out what the disco actually looks like – Can you see any cables dangling? Does the equipment look up-to-date and tidy? Do the lights create the effect and atmosphere you are looking for?
It’s also worth discussing the look with the DJ as you may be able to customise it to suit your Wedding. For example, some DJs will offer either a black or white setup depending on what you are looking for. Some DJs may offer lighting, such as Uplighting, that can be set to a custom colour to match your Wedding colours.
4 – Testimonials
It is always difficult to go and see a Wedding DJ perform as the majority of their work will be for Weddings and private functions. However, DJs should have a long list of previous clients who have left a testimonial of the service they received.
It is essential you spend some time reading these testimonials before you choose your DJ. Think about the words and phrases you want your guests to use when describing your Wedding, and then look for these words in the testimonials. If you find lots of these words, then you may just have found your DJ!
5 – Insured and Safe
Like any business, there are certain certificates and insurance every mobile disco company should have. Some hotels and venues may even ask for copies of these certificates before letting the DJ through the door, so it is important to double check your Wedding DJ has all the required certification. The two most common certificates you should look out for are PAT (Portable Appliance Test) – to confirm all electrical equipment is safe – and PLI (Public Liability Insurance) – incase there are any accidents involving the disco.
Wedding DJs should also have a backup plan should anything go wrong – Does your DJ carry spare equipment incase their main system fails? Does your DJ have vehicle breakdown cover incase they breakdown on the way to your venue?
6 – Price
Like any service, Wedding DJs are available at a range of prices in Dumfries & Galloway, however, you should always avoid choosing your DJ based on price alone.
It is a good idea to get in touch with a few Wedding DJs, discuss what you are looking for with each of them, and get a few quotes to consider.
Once you have a range of quotes, you can balance up their price with their style and personality, their stage look, and their previous client testimonials, and make an informed decision on which is your perfect Wedding DJ.
Bonus Tip
Remember that your Wedding is going to be the best day of your life and so it should be exactly the way you want it. If you have idea for something you want at your evening reception, whether that’s a special dance, a member of your family singing, or some other family tradition, talk to your DJ about it.
Chances are your DJ will be able to help coordinate this and even provide additional equipment that might be needed to make it happen.
